He was predeceased by: his parents, Elwood Gainey and Lizzie Jane Davis Gainey; his former wife Lois Barefoot Gainey; and his siblings, Irene Edwards, Sophia Fraley, Emmarie Gulledge, Genieve McClain, Fronnie Tolson, Edward Gainey, Kenny Gainey, Delmas Tucker, Bill Tucker and Sudie Eury.
He is survived by: his pet Tipy; his wife Dora Byrd Gainey; his children, Greg Gainey (Sylvia), Lisa Smoot (Willard) of Atlanta, GA and Lorey McClam; and his stepdaughters, Jean Neisler (Miller), Joyce Catoe (Patrick) and Janet Oliver (Scott).
Visitation was held on Tuesday, November 5th 2024 at 1:00 PM at the Harris Creek Baptist Church (356 Harris Creek Church Rd, Society Hill, SC 29593). A funeral service was held on Tuesday, November 5th 2024 at 2:00 PM at the same location.
