He is survived by: his wife Carolyn Hipp Burnette; his children, Cindie Riedinger (Eric) and Joseph D Burnette III; his stepchildren, John Wharton (Melissa) and Amanda Brooks (Robert); and his sisters, Emaline Burnette and Mary Ellen Ellenburg (Dale). He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
