He was predeceased by: his parents, Robert Cecil Fowler, Sr. and Grace Estelle Hopkins; and his siblings, Junie Fowler, Allen Fowler, Donna Mae Dye and Leta June Lay.

He is survived by: his spouse Lynn Thompson Fowler; his children, G. L. Fowler, Jr., Andy Lesley (Ashley), Zach Thornburg (Veronica), Tammy Jones, Jennifer Bright (Todd) and Anna Riddle (Trent); his siblings, Joe Fowler (Elaine), Doc Fowler, Danny Fowler (Jane), Janet Suggs, Sybil Vaughn, JoAnne Richards, Ellen Howard (Nick) and Martha Wofford; his grandchildren, Brooke Arnold, Heather Jones, Hayley Jones, Ethan Fowler, Ryan Lesley, Taylor Lesley (Kaylee), Eli Thornburg, Charlie Thornburg and Austin Nix; and his great grandchildren, Leona, Adrian, Manny and Westen.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the James Monroe Mission, Trinity United Methodist Church, 401 S Weston Street, Fountain Inn, SC 29644.
