He was predeceased by: his parents, Daniel J. Cain and Frances Trainor Cain; his brother Dennis Cain; and his siblings-in-law, Theresa Cain and Edward Merrigan.

He is survived by: his wife Mary Elizabeth Cain; his children, Brian Cain (Amanda) and Colleen Malla (Grace); his grandchildren, Emily, William and Caroline; and his sisters, Betty Cain (Edward) and Marie Cain-Sweatt (Joe).
