He was predeceased by: his wife Barbara Oneal Cox Painter; his parents, Draper Windell Painter and Martha Monima Hughes Painter; and his sisters, Martha Jean Hipps and Clara Nell Kirby.
He is survived by: his children, Scott Painter (Dawn) and Sandra Painter (John); his brother Charles Painter (Frances); his granddaughters, Lindsay DuPree (Dustin) and Savannah Painter; his great grandchildren, Elaina and Samara; and his close friend Carolyn Kellett.
