He was predeceased by: his parents, Harvey Ruffin Strickland and Agnes Revelle Strickland; his son Fredis "Freddie" R. Strickland, Jr.; and his siblings, Kenneth Strickland and Addie Rea Strickland.

He is survived by: his wife Judith Strickland; his daughter Belinda Walsh (John) of Columbia; his grandchildren, Miranda Strickland Jones, Jordan Friar, Camala Richmond (Monty), Brittany Haas (Joe), Abigail Walsh and Lizzie Walsh; his great grandchildren, Kylie Camak, Braylin Richmond and Cameron Richmond; and his sister Betty Hancock Williams (Edsel).

COVID-19 precautions of face masks and social distancing are required at the visitation and service.

The family request that memorials be made to Bethel Baptist Church, The Dementia Foundation, or Amedysis Hospice.
