He was predeceased by: his parents, Elijah Etheredge-Griffin and Mamie Zee Etheredge-Griffin; and his siblings, Mamie Jones, Ezzeter Griffin, Richard and Raymond Griffin.

He is survived by: his wife Clara Spearman-Griffin; his children, Shirley Saunders-Hall (Winston) of Decatur, Belinda Griffin-White (William) of Graniteville, SC, James Griffin (Ann) of Saluda, SC, Alfred Griffin (Andrea) of Lexington, SC and Marvin Griffin (Mia) of Swansea, IL; and his siblings, Earl Griffin of Florisant, IL, Eliza Griffin of Washington, DC, Nina Bookman, Alberta Boyd, Jean Griffin, Christina Hunter, Mary Powell and Dorothy Wheeler. He is also survived by sixteen grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren, three great grand grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
