He was predeceased by: his parents, George Frank Mathews (Annie Mae) and Ella Mae Coleman; his son Anthony; and his siblings, Lafayette Mathews, Johnny Rolland, Winnie Abney and Gloria "Pam" Smith.
He is survived by: his sons, Jesse Eugene of Chappells, SC and Stanley Coleman of Chappells, SC; his granddaughters, April Holmes of Johnston, SC and Aniva Abercrombie of Ninety Six, SC; and his siblings, Edna M. Coleman of Washington, DC, George W. Mathews of Maryland, Ella M. Lindsey of Washington, DC, Genelle Attaway of Texas, Nathaniel S. Mathews (Lillie Ruth) of Saluda, SC, Bennie K. Mathews of Saluda, SC, Lambert Kinard (Albert) of Saluda, SC, Ronnie Mathews of Saluda, SC, John O. Mathews of Saluda, SC, Tommie Garrett (Flint) of Irmo, SC, Alice Cannon of Leesville, SC and Vanessa Mathews of Newberry, SC.. He is also survived by his parents and wife.
Viewing was held on Friday, December 13th 2024 at 2:00 PM and at 3:00 PM at the Logan Funeral Home Chapel (203 N Bouknight Ferry Rd, Saluda, SC 29138). A celebration of life was held on Saturday, December 14th 2024 at 11:00 AM at the Young Mt. Zion Baptist Church (1896 Chappells Hwy, Chappells, SC 29037). A burial was held on Saturday, December 14th 2024 at the same location.
