He was predeceased by: his mother Betty; his wife Dorothy Gene Peppers Ray; his sister Lisa Ray; and his grandchild Jafaie Kitt. He is survived by: his children, Diashea J. Ray (James Watkins) of Orangeburg, Chasity Ray, Gregory Ray (Chereta) of Saint George, SC and Derrick Ray (Rodnekia Cummings) of Saint George, SC; his stepparent D'Jeny Peppers; his siblings, Michael, Alfred Ray III and Jill Ray of Virginia; and his close friend Mary Hart. He is also survived by other relatives and friends.
