He was predeceased by: his wife Dorothy Sauls Matthews; his parents, Linwood Matthews and Annie Fryar Matthews; and his sister Uldean Denham. He is survived by: his children, Ella Mae Brownlee (Allen) of St. George, Debbie Malphrus (Wendell) of Prosperity, Pam Hill (Bobby) of Timmonsville and Kent Matthews (Tammie) of Manning; and his brother Jimmy Matthews of Goose Creek.
