He was predeceased by: his parents, Ernest Webb Smyly, Sr. and Pearl Lorraine Carter Smyly; and his brothers, Ernest Webb, Sr. and John Smyly, Sr.. He is survived by: his wife Katherine Smoak Smyly; and his children, Renee S. Kirby (Wayne) of Cordova, James R. Smyly, Jr. (Satomi) of Summerville, Deborah J. Smyly of Ruffin, Duncan Smyly (Hope) of Walterboro, Dustin Smyly (Emily) of Islandton, Macey Collier of Ruffin and Regina Shumpert of Leesville. He is also survived by grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins as well as his beloved companion.
