He was predeceased by: his parents, Ben Ulmer and Bridie Breland Ulmer; and his brother Gary Ulmer. He is survived by: his wife Maxine Trammell Ulmer; his children, Ashley Ulmer (Susie) of Ruffin, Blair Ulmer (Maria) of Lexington and April Aulmer (Lauren) of Huntersville; his siblings, Olin Ulmer of Ruffin, Keith Ulmer of Ruffin, Terry Ulmer of Hampton, George Ulmer of Brunson and Gay Ulmer Nettles of Ruffin; and his grandchildren, Carter Ulmer, Kaleb Ulmer, Noah Ulmer, Banks Aulmer and Cade Aulmer.
