He is survived by: his wife Ann Jeffreys Woods Simpson; his son Joseph McJunkin Saye Simpson (Jessica Cook) of Charleston, SC; and his siblings, Dr. James Gaston Simpson of Charleston, SC and Augusta Simpson McCallister of Rodman, SC..
