He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Leroy Harris and Betty Harris; his wife Susie W. Harris; his daughter Olivia H. Prouty (David); and his siblings, Edward Harris of South Carolina, Sandra McDaniel (Wayne) of South Carolina and Kathy Godfrey (Terry) of South Carolina.
For many years he was involved in annual fund raising for the American Heart Association in partnership with Harris Teeter.
