He was predeceased by: his parents, Roscoe C. Conner and Gertrude Price Conner. He is survived by: his wife Patricia Short Conner; his children, Deborah C. Wright, Rebecca C. Ennis, Catherine C. Grant (Mike) and James R. Conner II (Michelle); his grandchildren, Stephanie W. Martin, J. Kenneth Wright, R. Brian Ennis (Shannon), Eric C. Ennis (Ken Helms), Jessica G. Coggins (Josh), Olivia G. Rose (Andrew) and Jalen R. Conner; and his sister Rose Marie C. Somerville. He is also survived by ten great grandchildren.
