He was predeceased by: his parents, Sidney Meek Burton and Katie Bailes Burton; his wife Nellie Jean Burton; his brothers, William Hunter Burton, Larry O'Neal Burton and John David Burton; and his son David Eugene Burton.
He is survived by: his children, Patricia Michelle Burton of Rock Hill, SC, James Edward Burton, Jr., Douglas Dwayne Burton, Timothy Matthew Burton, Roger Wilfred Burton and Randy Hunter Burton; and his grandchildren, Skyler, Briannah, Brandy, Hunter, Jessica, Trey, Brittany, Josh and Nikki. He is also survived by several great-grandchildren.
