He was predeceased by: his parents, Daniel Blackwell and Inez Blackwell (Huggins). He is survived by: his wife LaDonna Maria Blackwell; his siblings, Geneva Hudson, Lewis Blackwell and Betty Lamb; and his children, Daniel Blackwell (Buddy), Fred Blackwell II (Matt), Terrie Minton and Sherri Kee. He is also survived by nine grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.
