He was predeceased by: his parents, A. N. Shugart, Sr. and Lilly Elkins Shugart; his wife Margaret Jackson Shugart; his son Lance Shugart; and his siblings, Oscar Marvin Shugart, Carlton "Pete" Shugart and Alma Donette Good.
He is survived by: his children, Marty Shugart (Renee), Scott Shugart (Barbara Snow), Darryl Shugart (Mellen), Karen Shugart and Kelly Brindle; his grandchildren, Candace Martin (Bryan), Ashlyn Chavez (Leo), Taylor Shugart (Kayla), Bailey Gregory (Kyle), Rachel Shugart, Neely Shugart and Isaac Shugart; and his great grandchildren, Austin Martin, Lilyana Chavez, Maria Chavez and Harper Gregory.
