He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Henry Bates and Bertie Ruth Hawkins; his granddaughter Caitlin; his children, Pamela Brown (Harvey) of Lexington and Kent Hawkins of Prosperity; his grandchildren, Erica Waites (Tony) of Lexington, Mindy Hope (Rick) of Irmo and Jessika Peters (Jake) of Elgin; and his great grandchildren, Paul Waites, Emery Waites, Isaac Hope, Kaylee Hope, Tyler Peters and Brice Peters.
