It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Porteaner Y. Nance (Pinewood, South Carolina), born in Charleston, South Carolina, who passed away on January 12, 2025, at the age of 70, leaving to mourn family and friends. She was predeceased by: her parents, Richard Smith and Annie Brown Smith; her son Essau Bowens, Jr.; her siblings, Maple Porterfield, Rachel Herrington and Herman Smith; and her niece Wanda Marion.
She is survived by: her daughter Rachael P. Bowens (Reggie); her brothers, Barreck "Rico" Smith of Charleston and James Smith (Carol) of Greenville; her aunt Margaret Cooper (Buster); her siblings-in-law, Hosey Porterfield and Brenda Smith; her nieces and nephews, Julanda Bennett, Shelia McCrea-Alston, Ebony Singleton, Shelby Miller, Shaniqua Singleton, Richard Bennett, Ervin Moore, Evrith Smith, Jr., Eric McCrea, Kysii Smith and Terez Smith; her sister Ella Mae Tindal; and her close friend Michelle Boss. She is also survived by other relatives and dear friends.
