He was predeceased by: his father Ben Dan Nelson. He is survived by: his wife Irene F. Nelson; his son John G. Nelson (Dina) of New York; his adoptive son Robert Lee Jones of Sumter, SC; his daughters, LaGail Nelson (Jerome), Stephanie Nelson (Darrell) of New York and Dale Sinkler (James) of Pinewood, SC; his sister Earnestine Nelson Moore of Pinewood, SC; his grandchildren, Lakeia Melvin, Jennique Nelson, Janelle Rutledge and Anthony Albarado; and his great grandchild Jala Barrie. He is also survived by two brothers-in-law; four sisters-in-law; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
