He was predeceased by: his parents, Fred Thomas and Lartrell Mahoney Thomas. He is survived by: his wife Marjorie Ann Fewell Thomas; his daughters, Dr. Mattie Y. Thomas Sherard of Huntsville, Audrey Thomas Hogan (Karreem) of Greensboro and Anna Thomas Davis of Greensboro; his goddaughter Edee Jackson of Anderson; and his siblings, Liz Chapman of Augusta, Fred Thomas of Augusta and Dr. Robert Thomas (Gloria) of Tampa, Florida. He is also survived by thirteen grandchildren, one great-grandchild.
