He was predeceased by: his parents, Clara May and James Robert Timms Sr.; his wife Ruby Pearline Timms; and his siblings, Betty Cleveland and Danny Timms.

He is survived by: his children, James Robert Timms III (Jill), Janese Lesley (Hank) and Tammie Pruitt; his grandchildren, Bradley Brazeal, Rina Kyzer, Hope Henderson, Kati Peddie, Caleb Timms, Kaitlyn Timms and Ashlee Brazeal; his great grandchildren, Courtney Kyzer, Noah Kyzer, Zoey Henderson, Hannah Peddie, Alex Peddie, Karley Brazeal, Konner Brazeal and Khloe Brazeal; and his sisters, Jennie McNary and Gloria Chastain (Bobby).
