He was predeceased by: his wife Dot Helen Fowler Hayes; his parents, James Belton and Lou Mae Leopard Hayes; and his sisters, Jan Allen and Judy Bates.
He is survived by: his daughter Dawn Maria Hayes of Greenville; his sisters, Dot DeYoung and Mary Lou Woodruff of Enoree; and his brother-in-law Truman Bates of Piedmont. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
