He was predeceased by: his parents, Joseph James Bales, Sr. and Bessie Bales; his children, Douglas James Bales, Florence Marie Chute and Robert Donald Bales, Sr.; and his sister Betty Bluin.
He is survived by: his wife Ellen; and his sons, William "Bill" Jeffery Bales (Mary) of Newnan, GA and David Michael Bales (Tandy) of Hobbs, NM. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
