She was predeceased by: her spouse Ira Jack Prather; and her parents, James Allen and Evelyn Louise Owens Hipps. She is survived by: her children, James Howatt "Howie" McGonnigal, Jr. (Sarah) of Simpsonville and Patricia "Patti" McGonnigal Rish (Arthur) of Evans, GA; her sisters, Jeanette Reynolds of Belton and Carolyn Watson (James) of Greer; and her grandchildren, Richard McGonnigal, Elizabeth Brown, Patrick McGonnigal, Arthur B. Rish and Jack Thomas Rish. She is also survived by ten great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Greenville Humane Society, 305 Airport Road, Greenville, SC 29607.
