He is survived by: his wife Claudia Mae Cogsdill Smith; his children, Ronald Eugene Smith (Kathy) of Piedmont, Deidre Ivie (Gilbert) of Piedmont and Tammy Schaefer (Mark) of Anderson; and his stepchildren, Billy McAbee of Jacksonville, FL, Jane Griffin (Charles) of Jacksonville, FL, Chris Cothran (Jim) of Clinton and Lora Burgess (Tommy) of Piedmont. He is also survived by eight grandchildren; eight step-grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; and ten step-great-grandchildren.
