He was predeceased by: his parents, James Hoyt and Eda Mae Elgin Carter; and his siblings, Walter Lee Carter and Patricia Ann Mitchell. He is survived by: his cousin Darlene Canup of Pelzer; and his children, James Rudolph Carter, Jr. of Anderson, Margaret Ann Lollis of Piedmont, Wendy Lijh Blackshire of Greenville and Rachel Patty of Greenville. He is also survived by 5 grandchildren, and 5 great grandchildren.
