He is survived by: his children, Lewis McDowell (Kristin) of Simpsonville, SC, William McDowell (Amber) of Spartanburg, SC, Teresa Messer of Pauline, SC and Amanda McAbee (Nathan) of Pauline, SC; his grandchildren, Matthew Messer, Caroline Aycoth (Tyler), Justin McDowell, Tyler McDowell, Preston McDowell, Christian McDowell, Noah McDowell, Aaron McDowell, Cara McAbee and Emily McAbee; his great grandchild Enzley Aycoth; and his siblings, Harold McDowell of Belton, SC, George McDowell of Moore, SC and Jane Breeden of Bristol, PA..
