Angela Nellie Hilton Obituary
On January 1, 2023, after an extended illness, Angela peacefully departed her home to return to the Lord. The daughter of Ralph Oswald Parris Sr. and Vassar Louise Parris, Angela lived a life of sacrifice and service to Christ, family, friends and patients in her care.
Valedictorian and basketball player from Roebuck High School, she continued her studies while starting a family and received her Nursing Degree from USC Spartanburg. A lifelong learner, she continued her professional education throughout her life, taking multiple college courses and receiving her RN Licenses and practicing in South and North Carolina, Georgia, Florida and Arizona. Through her professional career, she provided excellent care for patients (and untold annoyance for Supervisors) on many hospital wards, the SC Dept of Corrections and the Navajo and Cherokee Nations.
In her personal life, she served as a Guardian ad Litem for children and devoted her efforts toward the SCBEST program while teaching Sunday School classes at Philadelphia Baptist Church. She cherished her Church Family at Philadelphia.
Angela was an excellent conversationalist; using her intellect, wit, curiosity and humor to talk and listen, to anyone she met. She provided genuine interest, encouragement and support to, and enjoyed successes of her children and family members. She appreciated a good joke, a new word, birdwatching and butterflies.
Angela is pre-deceased by her brother, Ralph O. Parris Jr. and is survived by her sister, Delores (Dee) Bowyer (Chris), daughter, Robin Grossner (Sam) of Chicago, IL, sons, Warren Smith (Pam) of Glenn Springs, SC, William Jason Hilton (Sheryl) of Pauline, SC, Justin Hilton (Kristie) of Lugoff, SC. Most especially she excelled as the best Nana to her beloved grandchildren, Whit Smith, Alex Smith, Jessica Coker (Sam), Preston Hilton, Kaylee Buckley (Caleb), Austin Hilton (Jessie), Jackson Hilton, Amelia Grace Hilton, Jessica Alvey, Claire Alvey, Beckett Grossner, and great-grandchildren Ben Coker and Joanna Coker.
As was Angela, the family is grateful for the love, patience and skill of her caregiving team.
Visitation will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, January 6, 2023 at Philadelphia Baptist Church Sanctuary, 3119 Highway 56, Pauline, SC 29374. Memorial service will be at 3:00 p.m. at the church, conducted by The Rev. Kiah Graves and The Rev. Ozzie Mabry.
