He was predeceased by: his parents, Elijah Matthews and Lydia Carmon Matthews; and his sister Betty Spring Humphries. He is survived by: his wife Donna Smoak Matthews of Pamplico; his son Don Matthews of Coward; his stepchildren, Michelle Kirby Miles (Sam) of Scranton, Lachelle Coker (Derrick) of Coward, Tara Watson of Coward and Jason Anthony Creel of Pamplico; his grandchildren, Jeffery Matthews, Nicole Parker (David) and Haley Matthews; his niece Kathy Nettles (Clay); and his great-niece Taylor Flowers Orman.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Stone Chapel Pentecostal Holiness Church, Men's Fellowship, 1996 West Hwy 378, Pamplico, SC 29583.
