He was predeceased by: his parents, Augustus M. Whetsell and Nettie Jean S. Whetsell. He is survived by: his wife Brenda Boltin Whetsell; his children, Gus Whetsell (Misty) of Ft. Motte and Heather Secrist (Brett) of Florida; his grandchildren, Aidan Whetsell and Bodie Secrist; his sister Amy Proctor (Jewell) of Beaufort; and his nephews, Jeremy Griffith (Heidi) and Joseph Griffith (Tonya).

Visitation was held on Tuesday, March 11th 2025 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the St. George Baptist Church (2590 Shillings Bridge Rd, Orangeburg, SC 29115). A funeral service was held on Tuesday, March 11th 2025 at 12:00 PM at the same location.
