James Hood Chavis Obituary
We are sad to announce that on March 16, 2025, at the age of 74, James Hood Chavis of Orangeburg, South Carolina passed away. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
He was predeceased by: his parents, George "Shade" Wilson Chavis and Margaret Steen Chavis; and his sister Joyce McQuage. He is survived by: his wife Neva Boan Chavis; his children, Cynthia Shuler (Robbie), Tara Lewis (Craig), Lisa Cupp (Bob) and Jimmy Chavis, Jr. (Christy); and his grandchildren, Miranda Rucker (B. B.), Alex Defrenn (Victoria), Edee Liles (Jared), Krista Stillinger, Shawn Stillinger, Blake Simmons, Madalin Simmons, Channing Smith and Aiden Chavis. He is also survived by four great-grandchildren.
Visitation was held on Tuesday, March 18th 2025 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Thompson Funeral Home, Inc. (1012 Whitman St SE, Orangeburg, SC 29115). A funeral service was held on Wednesday, March 19th 2025 at 3:00 PM at the same location.
