He was predeceased by: his parents, Claude McIntyre Wilsford and Leota LaCroix Wilsford; his son Timothy Wilsford; and his significant other Helen Wilsford. He is survived by: his sons, David Wilsford of Orangeburg, SC and Philip Wilsford of Saint Matthews, SC; his grandchildren, Caroline Wilsford and Chris Wilsford of Paris, France; and his great grandchildren, Marin, June and James Wilsford of Paris, France..
His contributions to education were widely recognized, earning him prestigious awards including National School Superintendent of the Year (1989), the Computer/Smithsonian Award for advancing educational technology (1989), South Carolina State University's Distinguished Achievement Award (1990), President Bush's 77th Point of Light (1991), and the State of Carolina's Order of the Palmetto (1991).
