It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Ernest Matthew Byrd III of Orangeburg, South Carolina, born in Columbia, South Carolina, who passed away on October 17, 2023, at the age of 27, leaving to mourn family and friends. He was predeceased by: his brother Theodore "Teddy" Oliver Mack; his grandmothers, Twilda D. Bennett and Geneva Mae House Byrd; his uncle Lawrence Larry Byrd; and his godmother Thelma Johnson Henson.
He is survived by: his parents, Ernest Byrd, Jr. and Theodora Mack Byrd of Columbia, SC; his uncle Morris W. Byrd of Eastover, SC; his great-aunt Velma Mabry House of Dante, VA; his godfather Donnie Brown, Sr. of Columbia, SC; his uncles, Darwyn Henson, Sr. (Tonia) and Robert Lee, Jr. (Shemonia); his aunt Dr. Charla Simons (Andrew) of Eastover, SC; his cousins, Clay Sandra Bryant Dash of Orangeburg, SC and Charlie Byrd, Jr. of Memphis, TN.; his close friends, Zayra "Zay" Mariano, O'Hyge Jacobs, Joseph O'Neil, Darrius Henson, Keshawn Rowe-Everette, Robert Lee, III, Rodrick Lee, A'Lexus Webber and Big; his sisters, Sugi D. Brown, Nicole Brown Smith and Big Brother Duane Sebastian; and his pets, Benjamin and Cali. He is also survived by relatives and friends.
