She was predeceased by: her parents, John E. Holmes and Lucille S. Holmes; her husband Rev. James W. Howard I of Orangeburg; her grandparents, James Scott and Minnie Savage Scott; and her brothers, Bundles, John, Jr. and Johnny.

She is survived by: her children, James W. Howard II of Orangeburg, SC, Jon Wesley I Howard (Tracy) of Latta, SC, Dr. Beth A. Howard-Brown (Bennie) and Brooke A. Howard of Orangeburg, SC; her siblings, Burnie Barnes (Julius) of St. Stephens, Jean Bullock (James) of Indian Trail, NC, Elisha McCottry (Karl) of Irmo, SC, Lois Ancrum (Hillmon) of Columbus, GA., Karen Lee of Orangeburg, SC, Phillip Holmes (Ethel) of Kingstree, SC and Stephen Holmes (Carol) of Richmond, VA; her grandchildren, Matthew C. Howard (Jasmine) of Ontario, Candace C. Howard of Gastonia, NC, Jon W. Howard II of Florence, SC, Matthew Howard of Gaffney, SC, Deja B. Nowlin of Gastonia, NC and Joshua Howard of Latta, SC; her uncles, David Scott of New York, NY, Harold Scott of New York, NY, Wilfred Scott (Hattie) of New York, NY, Charles Scott of Silver Springs, OH and John L. Scott of Kingstree, SC; her aunt Barbara Jean Fulmore of Kingstree; her sisters-in-law, Martha J. Snelling of Decatur, GA. and Peggye H. Wilson of Hattiesburg, MS; and her close friend Edith Sims of Orangeburg, SC. She is also survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
