He is survived by: his wife Alvida Moore Evans; his children, Dayna Evans Taylor (Ed Taylor), Sara Evans Talton and Eric Lewis Evans (Kim Evans); his grandchildren, Charlotte Ingram Taylor, Sara Lewis Taylor, Evan Cheney Talton, Rachel Carver Talton, Rebecca Claire Talton, Austin James Evans, Alexis Frances Evans, Brittany Ruth Anne Evans and Kenneth Eric Evans; his great grandchildren, Everett James Talton, Isabella Alvida Hampshire and Emery Claire Hampshire; and his sisters, LaRue Anderson and Hazel Watford.

Jim Thompson wrote a sympathy message

“To our very good friend whom we met in Iran in 1965 and have visited many places over the years. Goodbye to the most likable person we ever met. I believe you beat me in every golf game: I finally beat you in pool: I held my own in hearts: I maybe broke even in poker: I finally beat you in bowling during one of our visits to SC. Rest in peace our dear friend. Jim and Jewel Donny said he agreed Say "Hi" to Jimmy and Gene in heaven.”
