He was predeceased by: his parents, James Perry and Gladys Winnie Benton (Bowers); his wife Jimmie Loretta Benton (Franklin); and his siblings, James Dean Benton, Ruby May "Mell" Snow and Margaret Nell Minshew.

He is survived by: his children, John Perry Benton (Katrina) of Goose Creek, SC, Leigh Anne Hardwick (Wendell) of Summerville, SC and Lynn Foster (Thomas) of Bluffton, SC; his sister Evelyn Schaffer of Johns Island, SC; and his grandchildren, Jonathon, Ashleigh, Walker, Lillian, Samantha, Alexandria and Jackson.
