He was predeceased by: his parents, Arthur Gary and Henrietta Gary; his siblings, Amy, Charles, Ralph, Sr., Exodus, Sr., Elizabeth, Mary Alice, Harold, Mary Lee, Carolyn and Arthur, Jr.; his nieces, Ruth Burns, Carolyn Burns Deas, Doris Burns, Angelia Gary and Yvonne Gary Vanderhorst; his great-nieces, Kristine Gary and Shamel Gasque Stokes; his nephews, Tommy Gary, Christopher Burns and Anthony Garrett; his great-nephews, Cornelle Gary, Ramone Gary and Walter Myers, III; his nephew-in-law Willie Deas; his parents-in-law, James Coaxum, Sr. and Virginia Coaxum; his siblings-in-law, Josephine Sidbury, Mary Ann Coaxum, Virginia Gary, Elizabeth Gary, Lucille Gary, Mary Gary, Harrison Coaxum, Eugene Simmons, Rev. James Coaxum, Jr., Thomas Coaxum, Ronald Robinson, Furman Sidbury and Carlton Smalls; and also Jaq'coy Garrett.

He is survived by: his wife Emma Gary; and his siblings-in-law, Hestelle Brown (Wilford), Christenia Garrett (Moses), Margaret Gary, Vanessa Robinson, Elizabeth Coaxum, Mary Simmons, Rufus Coaxum (Saundra), Rogerstine Coaxum (Doorest), Joseph Jackson and Roosevelt Brown (Norma). He is also survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Viewing will be held on Friday, March 21st 2025 from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the Smith-McNeal Funeral Chapel (2119 Dorchester Rd, North Charleston, SC 29405). A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, March 22nd 2025 at 12:00 PM at the same location.
