He was predeceased by: his parents, Clarence Merle and Deetta Wheeler Smith; his stepdaughter Phyllis Dyches; his grandson James "Jimmy" Casey; and his siblings, Ralph Smith, Charles Smith, Donald Smith, June Walton and Dora Kling.
He is survived by: his wife Margaret Young Smith; his daughter Jeanne Smith Henderson (Joe); his stepson Donald Coursey (Louise); and his grandchildren, Samantha Anderson (Eric), Donnie Coursey (Dana), Jennifer Bolin (Doug) and Amanda Blackwell. He is also survived by ten great-grandchildren.
