He was predeceased by: his parents, Freman Waldo "Joe" Grainger and Thelma Horne Grainger; his sons, Joey Grainger and Jerry Grainger; and his grandson Sebastian Grainger.
He is survived by: his wife Carmen Soberon Grainger; his children, Charles Grainger, Jr. of Nichols, Jackie Grainger of Salisbury, N. C. and Carmen Maria Grainger of Guatemala; his grandchildren, Laurie Ann Ballinger (Corey), Crista Grainger Lowman (Wells), Jeremy Grainger and Joseph Grainger; and his great grandchildren, Makenzie Waller, Makayla Waller and Lara Lowman.
