He was predeceased by: his parents, Virgil and Grace (Moulson); his sister Mary Gage of Ware, Massachusetts.; and also Norma Gage of Oregon City. He is survived by: his sons, Robert Christopher Bates (Elvira) of Rodgau, Germany and Paul Douglas Bates (Donna); his grandsons, Daniel of Prospect and Christopher Fitzpatrick (Kate); his great grandchildren, Emma of Barrington and Annie of Barrington; his grandsons, Matthew Paul Bates, Trevor James Bates of Fall River and Cole Skinker (Megan); his great grandchild Madelyn Grace of Silver Spring, Maryland; his daughter Julie Anne Schlosser (Alfred); his grandchildren, Aili of Myrtle Beach and Benjamin of Fayetteville; his cousin Judy Brodeur of Springfield; his pet Peaches; and also Timothy (Kara). He is also survived by the oldest of six siblings and also had many cousins.
