He was predeceased by: his parents, Eliga Heird and Lela Heird (Fikes). He is survived by: his wife Joy Heird; his children, James Heird (Nancy) of Bluffton, SC, David Heird (Pam) of Goochland, VA and Susan Boothby (Clint) of Livermore, ME; his grandchildren, Kate Bragg (Tim), Brad Boothby (Stephanie), Lindsey Jones (Justin), Coryn Stuckey (Jason), Kara Brown (Andy), Taylor Heird and Abby Heird; and his siblings, James Maupin, Mac Arthur Heird and Cathryn Riley. He is also survived by 7 great grandchildren.
