He was predeceased by: his parents, Adam Smolen and Stephanie Ryzek Smolen; his siblings, Frances, Marcella, Dorothy, Stanley and Fred; and his nephew Phillip.
He is survived by: his wife Anita Smolen of Murrells Inlet; his children, Mary-Lynn and Jeffrey Smolen; his granddaughter Jenna Rose Smolen; and his pets, Pippen and Bennie.
