He is survived by: his parent Mable Kilpatrick Virnelson; his wife Judy Patton Virnelson of Surfside Beach, SC; his son Raymond R. Virnelson (Sarah) of Spruce Pine, NC; his sister Kay Thompson of Mint Hill, NC; and his grandchildren, Jake Virnelson, Zeb Virnelson of Spruce Pine, NC, Nicole Anderson (Will) of Hickory, NC and Robert Virnelson (Melanie) of Charlotte, NC..
