He was predeceased by: his parents, Harriet Kiely and Russell Dentel; his stepmother Mildred Reilly; his siblings, Jean Mauro, Robert and Richard Handowski; and his sister-in-law Maureen Beaudoin.

He is survived by: his close friends, Jim Saladino (Noreen) and Joe Quartararo (Mabel); his grandchild Lilli; his wife Peggy Ann Dentel; his mother-in-law Rosemary Beaudoin; his children, James Russell Dentel Jr. (Andrea) of Shirley, NY, Jason Richard Dentel (Courtney) of Palmyra, NY and Jacquelyn Renee Chadick (M. J.) of Myrtle Beach, SC; his grandchildren, Hannah Dentel (Brent Colf), Sami Dentel of Palmyra, Rosemary Chadick, James Joseph Chadick of Myrtle Beach, SC and Lillian Dentel of Palmyra, NY; his sister Arlene Richter; his brothers-in-law, Richard, Jeffrey (Janet), Dennis, Curtis (Paula) and Thomas Beaudoin (Kathy); and his close friends, Jim Campbell and Marcia Donofrio. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
