He was predeceased by: his mother Betty Little Cox; and his stepfather Frank Cox. He is survived by: his wife Alice "Cricket" Alcorn of Murrells Inlet; and his siblings, Gary Spivey (Melissa) of Loris and Pam Cox (Chris) of Loris. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Doug's name to PALM Charter High School (Palmetto Academy for Learning Motorsports), 826 West Cox Ferry Road, Conway, SC 29526, to be used to educate local high school students to become car enthusiasts like Doug.
