He was predeceased by: his parents, Alvah Justin Ackerman and Lisher Jaques Ackerman; his wife Jo Ann Davis Ackerman; his siblings, Alvah Ackerman, Lawrence Ackerman, Mary Ackerman, Jean Reeves and Bess Ackerman; and his daughter-in-law Marie Ackerman.
He is survived by: his son Alvah Justin Ackerman II of Bremerton, Washington; his siblings, Sherrill Ackerman (Monta) of Mt. Pleasant and Thelma Snelgrove of Tennessee; his grandsons, James Matthew Beasley and Adam Darrell Beasley-Ackerman; and his great grandchild Anthony Michael James Beasley.
