He was predeceased by: his parents, Edward White Whittington, Sr. and Sara Baker Whittington; and his brother Bill Whittington. He is survived by: his wife Donna Meares Whittington; his daughter Leah Whittington Weston (Carter); his grandchildren, Jack and Kate; his daughter Lindsay Whittington Creech (Stephen); his grandchildren, Caroline of Columbia, Mack of Columbia and Elizabeth of Columbia; his brother Dr. John Whittington (Jane) of Marion; and his sister-in-law Barbara Brown Whittington (Bitty) of Hickory.
