He was predeceased by: his parents, Guy Thigpen and Nell Brantley Thigpen; his wife Joan Mooneyham Thigpen; and his son Charles Thigpen, Jr.. He is survived by: his daughters, Tammie Hooks (Donald) of Nichols, SC and Debbie Thigpen of Wilson, NC; his grandchildren, Matt Herndon, Beth Honeycutt, Chase Hooks, Cheyenne Hooks, Hannah Thigpen and Andrew Thigpen; and his great grandchildren, Nash Alexander, Mila Grace and Tillman Reese "Tillie".
